As a non-binary person who grew up in the foster system, Tymber Hudson wants to see LGBTQ+ kids grow up thriving, and not merely surviving.

They are advocating for an accurate count so LGBTQ+ young people, especially in foster care, have access to resources, better funding, and the right programs to set them up for a more hopeful future.

“The experiences and outcomes of LGBTQ+ young people who grew up in the system are underrepresented in advocacy.”

“Growing up in the foster care system, I quickly learned to demand the rights that I deserve. The foster care system often fails to fully protect the welfare of children.”

“Most youth who age out of foster care system need to depend on federal programs just to survive. I did not let the system’s failures dictate my destiny. I had to tap into my own resiliency to claim the life I deserve.”

”Now, I am on the other side and I encourage everyone to join in claiming our power — to fight for what our community deserves.”

“I hope our responses will result in more resources to protect and support LGBTQ+ young people, especially in foster care.”
